What can pbxnsip do for you?

Mobility Support

telephony Mobility is a key productivity factor in today’s business life. The PBX supports mobility in several ways:

  • Calls to PBX extensions may include the cell phone. The call may complete, even if the call has to include the cell phone. This saves a lot of time trying to reach someone. A time-of-day setting makes sure that this feature keeps working hours and a delay makes it possible to pick up the phone on the regular desktop phone before the cell phone rings.
  • When you are on the road, calls from your cell phone are treated like calls from your extension. That means you can place calls originating from the PBX, which keeps your company’s caller-ID and saves a lot of money if you are making international calls. And if an extension is busy, the PBX can call you back on your mobile as soon as the extension becomes available again.
  • Hot seating can be used inside the corporate network as well as from remote locations. Your home may become a secondary working place for you if you decide that your home VoIP phone shall be the current place where all your calls are terminated. If you move back to the office, your home phone stays quiet.
  • And of course, the PBX can send you email when you miss a call or when you have a new mailbox message. The PBX may even call you on your cell and read out the mailbox message.

blackberry voipSIP Security

Having your colleague tapping your phone calls is not what you expected from upgrading to VoIP.

The pbxnsip PBX supports encryption of the conversations. Using SIPS, SRTP and TLS you can make sure that the spoken word is not being intercepted by eavesdroppers outside or inside your network and that the one who started the call can really be charged later for this phone call. Running business-related phone calls over the public Internet makes privacy a must-have. You might find out that your security is even better than it was in the good old switched telephony times when hackers have to admit they don't get anything useful even if they are able to tap the wire.

The security topic cannot be underestimated. If you are the system administrator, it is your job to ensure that the information is appropriately secured. Privacy of phone calls is in many countries a legal topic and insecure traffic is a door opener for denial of service attacks. Even if not all of your SIP devices support security yet, running the pbxnsip PBX is a good starting point and a good investment into the future.

Computer Telephony Integration

apple voipBeing a part of the computer infrastructure makes it easy for the pbxnsip to integrate with it:

  • Use the free TAPI service provider that comes along with the pbxnsip PBX to use your favorite tools to manage addresses and dial from the address book on the PC.
  • Use soft phones to make phone calls from your PC. This way, if you want, you can eliminate the need for an external phone and run all your phone calls on your PC.
  • Log into the PBX using a standard web client. You can set up your preferences on your own and check your mailbox, call lists and other stuff through the convenient web interface.
  • Using the web interface, you can arrange telephone conferences on your own and send out invitation emails containing the conference details. Your favorite calendar tool will make sure that you will receive the reminder in time.

If you like, you can use the PBX as a private presence and instant messaging system. This makes sure that employees do not get distracted from public IM traffic or you have to open your firewall for dubious providers of software running in your corporate network.
